KARNATAKA

Three years after the establishment of the IIPA, New Delhi in 1954, the Mysore Local Branch of the IIPA was formed in Bangalore in April 1957. It was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of the then State of Mysore, Sri. S. Nijalingappa.  It was converted into a Regional Branch in July 1957. The first Chairman of the Branch was the then Chief Secretary of Mysore State, Sri. P.V.R. Rao, ICS. Till 1990, the Chief Secretaries of the Government of Karnataka were Chairpersons of the Branch in an ex-officio capacity. Particular mention may be made of the services rendered by late Sri. T. R. Satish Chandran, IAS (Retd.), who served as Chairman of the Branch from 1984 to 1987. In June 2007, the then Chief Secretary of the State Sri. P. B. Mahishi, sanctioned  rent-free accommodation measuring nearly 1,000 sq. ft. in M. S. Building, Bangalore. Since then, the Branch has been able to extend its activities and function more effectively. To commemorate the Golden Jubilee of our Branch in 2007 a publication titled ‘History of Karnataka Regional Branch 1957-2011’ was released by Shri. T. N. Chaturvedi, Former Governor of Karnataka and Chairman, IIPA, New Delhi; Governor of Karnataka Shri. H. R. Bharadwaj and Justice Shri. N. Santosh Hegde, Former Karnataka Lokayukta in the function held on 17th December 2011. The Branch regularly organizes seminars, webinars, conferences, training programmes and workshops in the areas of administration, governance and public policy. It has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ramaiah Public Policy Centre, Bengaluru, to organize collaborative programmes. More such initiatives are underway. The Branch is bringing out monthly virtual newsletters called, ‘Vastava Suddipatra’ regularly since August 2020. The Branch has 27 publications to its credit. The current Executive Committee consists of Mr. S. Ramanathan, IAS (Retd.) as the Chairman; Mr. S.V. Ranganath, IAS (Retd.) as the Vice-Chairman; Dr. D. Jeevan Kumar as the Secretary; and Mr. Madhwaraj as the Treasurer. Executive Committee members include distinguished serving and retired administrators, as well as academicians. It may be mentioned that Mr. S. Ramanathan has been Chairman of the Karnataka Regional Branch continuously for a record period of more than 25 years, during which period, the Branch has been growing from strength to strength.

  1. Compendium-2 of IIPA-KRB Virtual Newsletters was released at the Annual General Meeting of the Branch on 1 st September 2022.
  2. Papers and Proceedings of the webinars on “Sustainable Development Goals – Vision 2030: Strategies and Action Plan for Karnataka” which was organized in collaboration with ISEC on 29th April 2021.
  3. A Compendium of the Virtual Newsletters of our Branch from Vol.1 No.1 to Vol. 2 No. 14.
  4. The Branch launched a monthly Virtual Newsletter (titled ‘Vidyunmana Suddipatra’ in Kannada), from August 2020. Till now a total 20 newsletters were brought out. The initiative is being continued. 

Other Programmes

  1. An On-Line Certificate Course in ‘Public Policy’ was jointly organized by Jain University and the Karnataka Regional Branch of the IIPA (Dec.13-17, 2021)
  2. The Certificate and Award Distribution ceremony of the 35-hour Certificate Course in Public Policy was conducted by the Centre for Research in Social Sciences and Education (CeRSSE), Jain (Deemed-to-be) University, in collaboration with the Karnataka Regional Branch of the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA-KRB), in virtual mode (March 30, 2022)
  3. The Branch launched a monthly Virtual Newsletter (titled ‘Vastava Suddipatra’ in Kannada), from August 2020
  4. Memoranda of Understanding have been signed with various institutions in the areas of Public Policy, Governance and Administration.
  5. The award for “Best Performing Branch” was conferred on the Karnataka Regional Branch by the IIPA, New Delhi at the Annual General Meeting in New Delhi in October 2022.
  6. Mr. V. Balasubramanian, IAS (Retd.) received the Paul H. Appleby Award from IIPA, New Delhi for “distinguished services to the IIPA and to the field of Public Administration”, at the AGM in New Delhi in October 2022.
  7. Mr. Madan Gopal, IAS (Retd.) received the 2022 Rajyotsava Award from the Government of Karnataka, in recognition of his “distinguished contribution to Public Affairs”.
