J & K REGIONAL BRANCH

J & K

The first traces of IIPA in the state of Jammu and Kashmir dates back to September 1963 when a Local Branch of IIPA was inaugurated at Srinagar by the then Director of IIPA Prof V.K.N. Menon. In 1978, the J&K Regional Branch of IIPA was established to promote and provide for the study and imparting of training related to Public Administration. The first Executive committee was constituted in 1981 under the chairmanship of Sh. S N Bajpe and Sh. Veeranna Aivalli, IPS as the Hony Secretary of the Branch. Since then the branch has been led by eminent civil servants including Sh. S C Pathak, Sh. Mehmood-ul- Rehman, IAS; Sh. Jalil Ahmad Khan, IAS; Dr. S S Bloeria, IAS; Dr. Ashok Bhan, IPS and Sh. B R Sharma, IAS. The branch today has more than 350 Life Members who actively participate in various events. In 2007, the Regional Branch was registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1998. On 21st April, 2008 the branch was shifted in its own premises which has a fully functional auditorium (with a capacity of 125 people), library (more than 500 books) and the building is now being upgraded with lift, additional training halls for organizing parallel events. Since its inception, the branch has organized over 400 programs including lectures, seminars, debates, panel discussions and trainings. The branch published a souvenir entitled “35 Years of J&K Regional Branch” in October 2013 and also a bi-annual newsletter which is available on website (www.iipajkbranch.com). The Regional Branch has made a niche for itself as a prestigious platform for a healthy interaction between the administration, academia and the civil society with the voluntary efforts of the elected office bearers and nominated executive committee members which includes a blend of civil servants, police officials, academicians and engineers. The branch elects a team of office bearers for a period of every two years. The J&K Regional Branch has been benefitted enormously over the years from support received from the GAD Govt. of JK; Jammu and Kashmir Police, University of Jammu, University of Kashmir, Central University of Jammu and Central University of Kashmir. In 2021, a MoU has been signed between IIPA J&K Regional Branch; National Centre for Good Governance, Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, Government of India and IIPA, New Delhi to undertake capacity building programmes in J&K. The contribution of the ranch towards public administration and building capacities for good governance has been acknowledged by IIPA New Delhi by awarding the prestigious Paul H. Appleby Award to Sh. Veeranna Aivalli, IPS (In the Year 2013); Dr. Ashok Bhan, IPS (In the Year 2016) ; Dr. S S Bloeria, IAS (In the Year 2017) and Er. J B S Johar (In the Year 2019).
