As a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India, the Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, inaugurated the National Tribal Research Institute on 07th June 2022 at IIPA Campus, IP Estate, Ring Road, New Delhi.
The Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda and other Cabinet and State Ministers, including, the Minister of Law and Justice, Shri Kiren Rijiju; MoS Tribal Affairs, Smt. Renuka Singh Saruta; MoS Minority Affairs, Shri John Barla and the MoS of Rural Development and Steel, Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste and other dignitaries had graced the occasion.
NTRI will serve as a pivotal national institution to become a connecting link with all 27 State Tribal Research Institutes and other relevant agencies working in the field of Tribal Welfare and Development across the country at national level. It aims to become the core centre of research, capacity building programmes, cultural exchange programs, workshops, conferences, repository hub, exhibitions of film and documentaries, awareness campaigns & outreach programs at national level on tribal subject matters with convergence between academic, executive, and legislative fields, focusing on institutional development and welfare of tribals.
NTRI is envisioned as think tank arm to Ministry in achieving and delivering outcome-based implementation of schemes, programmes and policies for tribal population right down to the grassroot level. more........
The National Tribal Research Institute since its inception has been organising a series of capacity building and training programs focused on various significant themes concerning tribal communities. These training programs have been inculcated to the State Level Officers/ Officials, Scheduled Tribes Panchayati Raj Institutions Representatives, Tribal Leaders, Tribal Scholars, Entrepreneurs, Artisans on topics ranging from Forest Rights Act 2006, PESA Act 1996, Prevention of Atrocities Act 1989, Governance in V Schedule Areas, Integrated Village Development Plan, Research Methodology, ToTs on Sickle Cell Anaemia, and Tribal Entrepreneurship Development. The Institute regularly collaborates with National, State and International Organisations, Universities, Departments, Institutes and CSOs with focus on empowerment of tribal communities and welfare and development of tribals.
As part of its activities under “Conferences and Seminars”, National Tribal Research Institute has organised a series of National Level Conference focused on various significant themes such as Decentralization, Tribal Local Self-Governance, Sustainable Tribal Development, Women Empowerment, Preserving Tribal Languages, Tribal Literary and Scriptures, Leadership and Management, Role of Voluntary organisations on field, and other relevant themes.
Adi Vyakhyan Series
One of the flagship programs of NTRI is “ADI VYAKHYAN”. It is an innovative series started by the National Tribal Research Institute on the occasion of the Jan Jatiya Gaurav Divas 2023, This initiative is dedicated to sharing their experiences in creating and disseminating works on tribal welfare and development while placing special emphasis on sustainable development. NTRI has organised Five (5) programs under this series on themes such as Conference on Tribal Development: Through the eyes of Tribal Thinkers, Writers and Leaders; Conference of Voluntary Social Organizations working in Tribal Areas, Leadership and Management Course for Tribal Leaders.
This series has earned widespread acknowledgement and the participants in each program have shared and presented interesting insights on subject of tribal welfare and development concerning the theme of particular seminar.
NTRI has chalked out a series of national seminar on different thrust areas addressing important matters related to tribal welfare and development. The deliberations in these seminars are expected to draw a list of suggestions and way forward on the theme under discussion with inputs from scholars, experts, policymakers, practitioners and members of tribal community.
Cultural Exchange Programs
India is marked by its rich traditional heritage of Tribal art & culture. For the past many years, the diversified art & cultural forms generated by the tribal people of India, have continued to demonstrate their creative magnificence. The rich cultural heritage of the tribes is showcased in its folklore, traditions, festivals, beliefs and lifestyle and also binds them together as this is passed from one generation to another. In addition to this, the tribal art & culture plays a significant role in reinforcing national integrity, fortifying communal harmony, intensifying the value system and promoting the elements of brotherhood among the people of the country.
The organization of the cultural event/festival plays an important role in creating awareness, promotion and dissemination of tribal culture and traditions. This will help in showcasing traditional handicrafts, spotting artistic talents and exploring ways and means of developing communication amongst all.
National Tribal Research Institute being placed in the national capital of Bharat, continuously organises cultural exchange program at its campus where it has state of art facilities including dedicated areas for live demonstrations, Exhibition Area and an Auditorium equipped with modern systems creating a conducive environment for tribal artisans/artists participating from different regions of India showcasing rich tribal heritage and culture to the public. These programs are concurrently held with documentation of performances / demonstrations to support in the initiative of preservation of their culture, heritage and traditions. The events also serve as medium of enhancing livelihood for the participating tribal artists/artisans allowing them an exposure to other art forms with exchange of knowledge and experience amongst the participants of program.
