Assam Regional Branch was established in 1984. Shri S.K. Agnihotri, IAS the then Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam took initiative and started the Regional Branch with head quarter at Guwahati. Shri S. K. Agnihotri was the first Chairman of the Regional Branch of Indian Institute of Public Administration and Shri Lakhmi Dhar Sharma, an officer of Assam Civil Service and the then Joint Director of Training, Assam Administrative Staff College was the Hony. Secretary and Treasurer of the Branch. In the year 1985 Shri Jatin Hazarika an IAS officer of Assam Meghalaya Cadre became the Chairman of Assam Regional Branch of IIPA. Shri Hazarika is continuing as Chairman of the Branch till today.  Shri Deepak Kumar Sharma, IAS (Retired) is the Hony. Secretary of the Branch now and Shri Guna Govinda Das, a retired officer of Assam Financial Service is the Hony. Treasurer of the Branch. The Assam Regional Branch does not have its own accommodation, but the State Government makes its facilities available for holding talks, seminars etc. as and when requests are made. The members of Assam Regional Branch are also allowed to use the Library of Assam Administrative Staff College, located at Jawaharnagar, Guwahati.  The Assam Regional Branch has been holding the Prelude Conference regularly since its creation on the theme decided by IIPA, Delhi. The Branch is also holding meetings of the Executive Committee regularly and conducting talks on important issues relating to public administration regularly and are attended by its members, Research Scholars and Students as well.

Working on the research project undertaken by Regional Branch to complete th administrative history of undivided Assam covering the period 1826(Treaty of Yandabu) to 1972 (Creation of Meghalaya) is in progress. This project has been undertaken with the help of assistance of selected teachers of Guwahati University as well as couple of local colleges. We hope to complete the first draft of the history within this year

Eapen , IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Govt. of Assam. Shri Jatin Hazarika, Chairman, Assam Regional Branch presided over the conference. (Oct. 2, 2016)
  2. Talk on ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ by Mr. Jhon Borgoyary, Regional Head, UNDP, NE India. (Jan. 28, 2016)
  3.
