Abstract
Samrat Choudhury’s book, Northeast India: A Political History, came out early in 2023. It was the time when Manipur, one important state in the region, was undergoing a conflict between the Kukis and the Meiteis two of the largest ethnic groups in the state. The reviewer feels that writing an account of Northeast India is a formidable task given that the region now is more of an administrative construct, rather than a region with a past and shared identities. This is quite evident from the fact that the author has provided a separate account for each state in the region.
